thanks dec,
i left out part of my workfow, i let the panasonic deck upconvert the 
720p to 1080i when i digitized the HD
footage, and exported those clips as ref movies which i linked to in an 
SD seq.  in my experience the deck always seems to
do a better job of changing frame rates and sizes than DS.
