Okay Howard - so why is EECO timecode an octave lower than EBU timecode?

I remember phoning our local broadcaster (who used quad carts for commercials playout) to tell the transmission controller that every other commercial (ie cart 2) had timecode bleed on the audio.  He was most grateful for me pointing it out, but it still took a week before it got cured.

Most folks couldn't hear it, but with the mod I'd made to our TV with the audio fed through the hi-fi it came through loud and clear.

Regards,
Tone :)

you can download the file

EECO8.ZIP

Unzip as a wave and hear the musical sound of original EECO time code ;-)

If you begin to get a headache and suffer from hallucinations at night then perhaps you would not have made it in the "Good ole Days". If you love the sound and wish to have it playing in the background while you do all your creative work you would have been shot on site in the good old days. Talk about "ear trash"  :-))

Most of them are either capturing via firewire direct from camcorders or from half-rack VTRs with no front-panel edit capabilities. If they think two-deck digibeta editing is cool, they should try the old minivan-sized Panasonic ¾? decks with the two-knob, forty-three-button controller. Say it all together now: ?ka-CHUNK??click?click??ka-CHUNK?CLICK!?

Just to be clear, I am not on a respirator yet. I am but 44.
Curiosity more than anything. My experience does not reach back into the bowels of early electronic editing, but without composer, etc,. I would have got out many moons ago.
cheers.

Ok Howard and Matt,
You may be onto something!  Old Editors with old equipment?  There can't be many of us left that know what a flying erase head is. How many of you lost your finger tips stopping run away 1 inch machines? I am finding kids today that are amazed and confused that you can make an edit machine to machine without a computer.

Hi Matt,
Well I find one big problem is letting the youngsters think they have all the great, hot, new ideas and that they are right about everything. It does seem that one must be very self effacing and willing to defer to upstarts if you want to continue to work happily in the business.
It amazes me how contagious the "in your face" attitude has become amongst producers, directors, Actors, and yes even Engineers! What has happened to civility? Did it ever exist? What about professional courtesy?
I know that on numerous occasions I have been "Right with the Wrong Attitude". But today's style seems to be "I know I am right so you can GTH"!
I enjoy working with anyone that has an exciting project and clarity of thought and vision. It does not matter how young they may be as long as they do not categorize me as too old or irrelevant. That would be their mistake:-)) When their cell phone quits working, their computer crashes and their favorite gadgets are on the fritz I could still produce product.
Ernie Kovacs had an inspirational Quote that went something like this:
"Television is a Medium because anything done well is rare."
I couldn't agree more and that is one reason I am encouraged by the talented people I find on this list. No other list that I frequent has the caliber of folks that are here! I am privileged to work with them.

So along with old gear, what about any of us out there in DS world who are slowly but surely getting up in years....how do you feel about sitting across from a 25 year old art director? I have kids almost that old now.....
Does anyone feel like they are not long for this world of strange hours and strange requests, or do you just see it as another phase and a challenge? I prefer to think of myself in the latter category...
I know I am not the only one who feel this way, and was curious to hear others POV's....or have I smoked too much over the years?
