Subject : Urgent! Drives for the future Question - Addendum!
C.I. Designs has a new product that is better for the application. The
redundant supply version of the C.I. 9000 frame is discontinued.

The product to ask for is a PN 09-1775-001B Dual SCSI frame for 16
drives with redundant power and preconfigured for two, terminated SCSI
chains. it comes with all 16 drive carriers.
Cost direct form C.I. is around $1050.
Since this holds 16 ea. 80 pin drives it is very easy to expand and not
expensive.

There is a slide rail kit 08-6044-01B, $40

You can buy new Cheetah 146 MB for around $420. Re-certified for around
$250 ea.

Ask for Hank Chen at C.I. Design. And FYI I am getting nothing for this
information. It is just nice to see folks get what they need at a
bargain price.

PS: You do not want to hang more than a couple of the Cheetah SCSIs on
the PC power supplies. You need an external storage system to avoid the
overload. You also must stripe across both SCSI hosts to achieve
approved performance.

This info from Howard came in time for me as well. But I have another
question.
Can I add on 4 stand alone SCSI 146GB drive to my Avid Media Dock LVD.
If I can, do I have to restripe all 12 drives or can I just strip the
new 4 drives without losing info on the original?
I need to add another set for a 60min HD doc & of course need to do it
cheaply as possible. My current set up suited us fine for smaller HD
projects.
Thanks for the help,

You can use a pair of 8 drive, rack mount frames from C.I. Designs [
CI-9000, around $850US ] with built in redundant power supplies. Hang 8
ea Seagate 146 GB Cheetah U320 drives in each frame terminating the last
drive and daisy chain them back to the two SCSI outputs on your host at
the HP. Stripe across all 16 drives.

This will give you maximum bandwidth and performance and is also
inexpensive considering the excellent MTBF of the ST3146807LC drives. In
the US the total cost would be around $8K for about 2.2 TB of very
reliable, U320, fast storage.

Of course you could just have 4 drives in each frame and expand later or
even one frame split into two chains and save another $4K. for most
work.

On this subject...
We may have to replace our drive set (rather than
fixing it). If we do this we want to future proof as
much as possible.
Will the Lamborgini (sp?) array be approved for v8?
