Last week we aired a "Processing Required" on a graphic. My comment to the producer with whom I was watching this air (I did not cause the problem, just witnessed it) was that no non-linear editor is a playback device.

There are too many issues with any non-linear editor to be able to use it for playback (this is not an Avid issue). With respect to going to tape, the little red button is generally accurate. I find the yellow bars on the timeline to be inaccurate. They always need rendering.

Hi Loretta,

Until we get that, there's always that bright red "led" next to the Ripple button.

Regards,
Tone :)
ps - as for "Needs Processing" going out on air I saw a documentary go out on Sky a few weeks back with "Media Unavailable" in three different places.  How did THAT get through tech review?

Hi, Everyone,

I understand that this is something that others have asked for but it won't hurt to ask again.

It would be nice to have an error message if you have unprocessed scenes when you output to tape.

I noticed on a Friday night newscast that they could have used it, too. There it was, as bright as day..."Needs Processing". Ouch.
