I do not believe most LCD monitors are calibratable (is that a word?)
due to the fact that they are backlit by a lamp which is fixed in its
color temperature. With two of these monitors side-by-side, there could
be differences in the color temps of the sources, which could be
viewable.

This is just my understanding, but I could be all wrong!

This is what concerns me with Sony's decision to DROP the PVM line of
CRT-based monitors. They now are pushing the Luma-series of LCM picture
monitors. Are these able to be aligned for color balance and matched to
each other? Do you use standard tools like CRT color analyzers to do
the job (I use the good-old Minolta analyzer here)? I have been trying
to get our Sony rep to demo one here for a week or so, so we can play
with it a bit and answer these questions.

This is especially concerning, as the price difference between the PVM
and BVM series are HUGE and for most non-critical monitoring, the PVM's
do a nice job and are able to be color-matched.

Subject: Monitor Calibration

Would anyone know how to properly calibrate the LCD monitors of the
DS. Our HP XW8000 came in with 2 LCD Flat Panel Monitor L1925.
Whenever I reset them to factory settings, still the colors vary.
The left monitor seems to be more correct than that of the right,
which has the source and record monitors of the DS.

Another query is: How do I calibrate an Sony LCD monitor. The Sony
guys are telling me that I should use a BVM or PVM monitor so that I
could get the proper calibration. But of course, they're just
telling me to buy one of their products which I don't have the money
for. Is there an instrument to calibrate LCD monitors. Please
help. Thanks in advance.

Aleks
