It probably won't bother the deck but in the scheme of things why risk your entire production by using the wrong stock. To save what amounts to lunch money for a few crew members.

This was a long time back when the only machines were F500s and there were only two in the UK.

He had taped over the sensing holes and the camera had detected the DigiBeta tape as an HDCam tape. I suspect it would have been OK and it had worked in the camera, but the facility were not keen to accommodate his tapes.

Were they using an m2000 with legacy playback the tape would not bother the machine at all.

A Dutch DOP did that a while back - no facility in London would allow him to put them in their HDCam decks.

Hi Thomas,

Very risky - much higher likelihood of dropout.

Tone :)

Hello everyone,

I've heard that it is possible to use simple BETACAM DIGITAL Tapes to record HDCAM material. It is obviously interesting as digit tapes are much cheaper than HDCAM tapes. Does anyone know the exact difference between thoses 2 tapes (besides from plastic's color) and if it is risky to do so ?
