Hi,

I think it's time to repeat what Serge and myself have both said at different times.
Whilst we both believe that DS will die, this is not necessarily a 'Bad Thing'.

DS base code is now over 10 years old.  It needs a re-write
MC base code is now over 20 years old. It desperately needs a re-write
Not particularly relevant, but I'll mention it for the sake of completeness, FCP's base code is over 5 years old.
Unless Avid intend to close up shop (unlikely) they need to replace their product line with something written today with a modern code base.  Assuming they do so, this can be the replacement for DS.  Same features and then some, better performance, more easily migrated to new platforms and easier to upgrade.
This is undoubtedly a monumental task, and until completed DS, MCA and Phony Nitris will have to continue to exist.

So... right now I have a DS that functions well, does most of what I need, and will continue to function for as long as I want it to. If Avid were to drop DS tomorrow that wouldn't invalidate my investment in it - I can still earn money from it for as long as I need to.  As and when Avid develop a replacement then I might migrate to it, depending on what features it has, how much it costs to upgrade to, and what else there is in the marketplace.

So whilst I feel desperate frustration with Avid for:
        Their silence
        Their lack of vision
        Their lack of investment
I still have a product that I'm proud of, that I know inside out, and that produces results that my clients are more than happy with.

Now, did anyone say HDV support?

Regards,
Tone :)

Don't get me wrong - I love my DS and it does more than I need currently.  If I really needed 3D, I'd go out of house anyway.  But sitting on a platform that feels like it's about to die, certainly makes me question my loyalties after investing so much time and money.
