Hmm. looks like the DS can't do this, only a "lesser" box, either FCP or Adrenaline (or Mojo)-based Avid.
Would this amount to a feature request?

Avid owns a lot of ip on this. In the composer you can add chapter
marks and thumbnails as locators on a meta data track, directly
compatible with Sonic products (and thus AvidDVD).
