I think this discussion has gone into a loop. We are pouring out angst
but the timing is off. Avid is ahead of us prepairing for the future and
this based on their beliefs and probably also on some of our bitching.
Avid is dependent on their customers and don't want to waste any of us.
The problem is that the development of DS took a wrong direction many
years ago and the resulting lack of new toolset is why we are worried
today. I honestly belive they do all they can to find the better track
for their top of the line product. It is just that this will take time
and our patience has worn low, and disbelif is spreading. I still belive
that Avid should adress this here in this community.
It isn't true that Avid has been silent on the issue. They haven´t, but
their voice has been put forward on a one to one level. Many of us have
recieved phonecalls from high ranking Avid people, explaining their
situation and asking about our views. The discussions are not meant for
this forum though because of the nature that "anybody can lurk here".
Basically what has been said is: we hear and we are trying to do
something about it. From here it's up to us to belive this or not
dependent on how well we can imagine ourselves within the Avid solution
in the future.
I think it is only fair to everybody to at least share this little knowledge

Johnny,
That’s pretty much all we’ve been talking about since NAB, or even
prior. Frankly I’m growing weary of the discussion.
Each person’s crystal ball sees a different thing, but generally we
all agree that Avid can’t decide what DS is going to be, or at least
they won’t share it with the rest of us. NAB 2005 seemed to indicate
Avid’s pushing DS into the world of digital intermediate, to the
detriment of compositing, paint, editing, 3D and playing well with
others, but unless one is a Tewksbury insider, one can’t possibly know
for sure what they’re thinking (or IF they’re thinking). Users in
highly-competitive markets are understandably uneasy about their
sizeable DS investments as Autodiscreet and other developers continue,
uh, developing their products while DS sits in limbo. DS users in
smaller shops or less-competitive markets seem to feel like they – we
– can continue with status quo in the short term as our systems
continue to make us money, though we certainly see the system’s
shortcomings and are disappointed as DS sits in limbo.
What most of us would like to see is – minimally – a firm display of
Avid’s direction for DS so we can make informed decisions about the
future. What most of us would like to see IDEALLY is a resumption of
the thoughtful, responsive, innovative development of a system which
HAD a great deal of potential (it’s still not too late) and about
which we are very passionate. If you want specifics, search the list
archives at http://www.softimage.com/Community/Xsi/Discuss/
and search on the phrase “wish list.” It’s a pretty long list.

There seems to be a lot of assumptions on the future of DS
What is the general feeling here on the Future of DS and what would
you like to see happen in the future?
