I assume you are referring to the form where you apply for an account.
On the first page it asks you for your Login Name and Password. As this is your first time visiting, you won't have one. So there's a button at the top of the screen that instructs you to "Click here if you need to create an account" When you do so, it asks for various pieces of information - is this where you are being asked for your SID?
It is important to realise that if you don't have a valid Support Contract then your SID will be rejected.
Your SID is indeed the 8 digit number shown in VIE.
It can also be seen from Help-->About Avid DS Nitris. It is the first 8 digits of the line "SID Number"
It can also be seen from within your License. Using Explorer go to C:\Softimage\FlexLM\Licenses and open up softimage.lic with Notepad. You'll see a couple of lines that start "NOTICE=" The first 8 digits are, once again, your SID.

Tone :)

It's my first time to log on to the Avid Companion Applications of
the DS Support Center website and its asking me for the SID of our DS
product for me to be able to log on. Sorry if it's a dumb question
but where do i find the SID? I have tried entering the 8 digits that
says "SID number" that's listed on the report when i run the
diagnostics tool of our DS but the website rejects the number.
Thanks in advance.
