I'd have to agree with Rich on this one Matt, if you specify the "i" in you
format, it does mean interlaced. 1080psf, would mean 23.98, not 24. And
23.98/ HDV is not what messes up the format.720p does not necessarily mean
60 progressive anymore, there's 720 23.98 which is making a lot of noise.
What it comes down to, at least in the US, is that the darn FCC couldn't, or
wouldn't settle on a format, so now formats are running amok. I appreciate
Mark Cuban/ HDNet's standard practice.

What messes up the format is that most productions don't realize the
differences and what they're really better at. If the Prod coordinator would
just talk to the online/post facility before they go to edit, then there
would be less issues to deal with.

And for those who have been editing on MC for yrs and yrs, they need to
actually be told there is a difference when setting up a project in MC, that
no, 24 does not mean the same as 23.98. They've been so used to selecting 24
all these yrs, and never realizing it was 23.98, that it's actually a shock
to some when you explain it.

Try explaining that to a post super/ editor who has gone all the way thru
editing without consulting an Online guy first. Or having 24p material
transfer to 59.94 instead of 23.98, and then doing your conform.

Don't get me wrong, I like making money, and the ore screw up=the more money
you make (Freelance), but I hate "stupid" work. And all it would take is a
20 minute conversation b4 telecine to make sure frame rates where at the
best and carried thru the entire edit/online/mix stages.

But now I'm just rambling.
