You're not alone Mike, others have reported it, even to DS Support.
The issue is with the Avid Nitris DNA hardware programming actually, and
Symphony Nitris will have the very same limitation unless engineering
modify their programming.
What previous customers reported and testing revealed is that the
downconvert was not correctly locking on the first pull down frame and
so the Assemble output (Insert editing being impossible in downconvert
mode) was random on the first image. Engineering found a way to fix the
programming so the downconvert always starts accurately on the SD tape
first frame and edit point.
Unfortunately, it causes this image break-up when you use the
downconvert function for playback preview (which the downconvert was NOT
designed for...).
There is a work item in the development database for engineering to
review at a later time.

Subject: Downconvert Question
Hi All...
I'm working on a 23.98 HD project. While the client gets to monitor the
DS HD output on a plasma screen, I monitor through a SD monitor using
the downconvert output. Now, since we have upgraded to Nitris 7.6, QFE
2a, my SD monitor "glitches" everytime I play or stop the timeline.
Other DS's in house do not do this. And the HD monitor also does not
glitch. This also did not occur while on DS 7.5. Anybody else see this.
Thanks in advance
Mike
