I would not trust any editing to a 1200A. Check out the manual. I believe it is considered a Player only deck.

On the VariCam Creative Cow forum, a rep from Panasonic said that, absolutely, the deck is not designed for ANY insert or assemble editing. Crash record only.

Since the 1200a doesn't do insert editing, will that be a problem?

This is the first time that I've archived anything to tape. I
have a 10 second spot with 10 layers. 720p 59.94. Can I
archive to a DVCPro AJ HD1200a? Is there anything I should
look out for to assure a good archive?
TIA
KEN

*Hi Ken,*
** *I archived to an AJ HD1700 with the same format and frame rate a
while back without any problems and it restored just fine even
though the entire edit suite moved to a different site. I can't
see why you would have any problems with a 1200a. One thing I
like to do, though painstaking, is make sure your stock is
entirely striped before archiving, but that's a personal preference.*
