Sure it
will. You can have Sorenson convert from anything to anything including
“uncompressed”
codec QuickTime or even “Animation” codec QuickTime if you want.

Well
then QTPro, if it
had a watch folder option.
or other app that does a watch folder with "None"
I thought Sorenson would do a "none" file, sorry.

A good workflow with Ref files though, is to
set up a
watch folder, and
whenever a ref, quicktime file shows up in the folder, a software app.
like
Sorenson Squeeze can crunch down an uncompressed quicktime for you, in
the
background, so the DS doesn't have to sit about making movies..
Ref files take as long to write as it takes to write the audio for the
file..
quick.

Hi Mark,
A QT ref
file uses the DS media to play (hence reference file) and cannot play
on
another system (at least one not linked to yours). They are incredibly
fast to output as opposed to regular QT files. This is helpful in my
workflow since I create DVD masters and encode the reference file to
MPEG2
through a software encoder.
As for
your workflow, unless you keep the animation on your DS all the time a
reference file will become useless when you delete the media.
Therefore
exporting a full QT is probably the wiser choice since you'll need to
get back
to it later.

One of
the things we're
doing a lot these days is kicking out Quicktime files for later DS
usage (like
when we create a background treatment we like for later animations or
when we
create lower thirds so that Avid Newscutters can import them and use
them in
their news packages) we export the files as Quicktime, No Compression,
with
Alpha as needed and Millions of colors + (for Alpha). We also tend to
not have
audio with these files.
We
don't do Quicktime
Reference Files. Never have.
Is
there something
special about the reference files? Obviously the files we export work
for our purposes...
