Ok than, I won't turn off the drive chassis, but what about the Nitris
Box, and the system itself ?

Hi Jason,
You should know that turning the system on and off IS a form of power
surge! That is why many systems fail during power-up! The power supplies
will run much longer and the capacitors, transformers, diodes and
components have a much longer life WITHOUT cycling the power. Running
24/7 is a proven approach. We used to lose monitors and other hardware
items frequently when turning off and on all the time.
The only drawback to 24/7 operation is that you need to watch your fans
and blowers, and UPS batteries carefully and keep them up or replace
worn out units. A typical PC fan or blower can go about two to five
years without failure. Always replace with ball-bearing models not
bushing units. If you have the patience and know-how you can maintain
and lube the bearings before the fans die.
Have good, clean UPS on all your gear and leave it on!
Sincerely,
Howard C.

1 crazy power surge + 1.5 days on phone with tech support + 1 new SCSI
card
+ 1 new chassis = shut down everynight. :(
