The projectlocations.txt will display UNC paths, because the Avid DS indexers reads Windows shares to locate clients' projects and media files in a DS Workgroup (Tone's TMI switch turned ON).

 

If you check the Windows share for your F:\DS Projects\DS_v7.5 folder, it should be DS_Projects indeed.  So, \\nygfxds533\ds_projects is the UNC path for your local Project Root.

 

Nothing is broken.

 

Why do you lose the Project Root after a system restart?  That's the interesting part.  Maybe Igor feedback about the network "AutoDetect" option can help you resolve this.

The real path to the 533's projects is:

Should I edit the first line to be that?

My Avid DS (support system) is on a domain controller environment.  When I restart the computer, the Project Root sticks.  At times, if the domain controller has modified information for my domain user account, the Project Root might be gone and the Open Project dialog is empty.  In which case I must also select Add Project Root to reset this information.

 

The Project Root is recorded in C:\Program Files\Avid\Services\DSSystem as ummd_roots.

There is also a text file in C:\Program Files\Avid\DS_v7.6\DSSystem named projectlocations.txt that identifies the Project root.

 

Check if the ummd_roots date is current, and check the text file to see if that does reflect your actual root path.

 

Maybe the problem lies there?

 

When I write that this issue does not affect everyone, I don't make this comment to be a wise-ass, it is just that specific environment and network can indeed upset the indexer and lose the Project Root information after a system restart.  It would be nice to find a permanent fix to this issue (annoyance) but adding the Project Root is not such a terrible thing...

Does that machine have a static IP? If not, assign one to it. Also, in your network adapter settings under Link Speed & Duplex ... do not leave it on “Auto Detect” ... I have mine set as 1000Mbps/FullDuplex.

I had the “disappearing project root” problem until we changed those two things.

Might be obvious but make sure that the local account that runs the PI and MI has full administrative privileges.

Whenever the machine is recycled (Reboot Windows), the DS cannot find its Project Root. It seems to default to the last known folder (even on a network) you had open or the root directory in C:\

I have given the machine plenty of time to get the Media Indexer running on it. I have given Windows plenty of time to fully and completely start up before starting the DS application.

This inquiry has been sent to Escalation, according to our Maintenence department -- I just want to know if there is a config file I could edit so that this machine could be reset to the way it is supposed to be.

I have to assume that Paul Murphy, at one time, got to this machine and deleted something... (not seriously).

There is one person who operates this machine weekends who seems to not know what he is doing. He is probably the culprit here but one can never know for sure.

Anyone know what's amiss here?
