For future reference, what is the going rate for DS
freelancers these days? Ive never had to bring a
freelancer in but I may have to in the near future.
What would be an acceptable rate and what should I
expect? I'm assuming transportation and lodgings are
all picked up by the hiring party.

Thanks all!

What market are you in?  Rates vary greatly depending upon the area you run your business and the clients you bring in.  There can be as much as $300/day disparity for different level artists.  Lodging and travel should be picked up by the hiring company, unless the artist is within proximity and has their own transportation.  A per diem is out of the ordinary, but certain expenses are always negotiable.  And I would certainly NOT base any of this on the Canadian dollar.  ;)
