$85-$125/hour base, depending on the project and complexities. OT
negotiable. I will work on fixed-bid if both you and I are 100% agreed on
the scope of the project and it's on paper. And in either scenario, the
second I see that your 'simple' project is going to take more than 2 hours
over what you told me, we'll sit down and discuss options.

I've had clients who weren't happy with those 'policies' but because I told
them up-front, it was their choice to hire me or not. Unfortunately in the
freelance market there are varying degrees of skill. Less senior operators
will hear a rate like $85 and start charging that. Then when they can't do
the job, or on the next job, the client does NOT feel that $85 is a good
value-for-money.

Also, you can put me on 'hold' for a job, which means that you have right of
first refusal. If I get another offer for your 'hold' time, I call you first
and see if you want to 'buy' me for the days you have me on hold for. If you
decline then I take the other job (which means you probably can't call me
later and say 'I want you to come in'). If you accept, then you have to pay
me for the days you bought regardless of whether we actually work those
days. We MAY be able to negotiate something about those days but if I turned
down other work for your job and you can't keep a handle on your own
projects I'm not taking food out of my mouth to deal with it. The flip side
is that if I get a 'better' offer and you have me on hold (like a 10-day job
comes in while you have me on hold for 1 day) I will still honor your hold.
If you want to buy the day, I turn down the other job regardless of days or
rate.

Solves a lot of schedule issues, and although I may 'loose' 9 days of work
in the above scenario, I know you'll be calling me again because you know
exactly what you're getting. I wish more freelancers I now work with could
understand this standard...
