Just to add to Tones indepth answer. During multiple clip selection if you run into clips with different scaling settings the scaling may be greyed out on the properties panel. Make a smaller selection and do changes with fewer clips.
Good luck

Yes - the original 16:9 sequence remains unaffected.

"Also what sequence preset do you recommend? (i.e. Presets: scale to fit, Media: scale to fit) I have to admit that this has always confused me as It never seems to work out as expected."

It all depends on what results you wish. It's generally easier to experiment to see which one works as opposed to trying to remember what each one will achieve.

"Where can I change the media scaling options?"

Right-click a clip on the timeline and select "Properties". Check that it's not showing "Multiple Conversions". If the clips are showing that, you can at least multi-select them and change them all together.

Good luck,
Tone :)

Thanks for the quick reply Tone, like you say it has only affected graphics objects and shapes. Just to make sure I'm getting this: By performing a 'save as' and using the copy to then drag onto a 4/3 sequence am I shielding the effects caches / shapes and graphics objects from this swine of a problem? Also what sequence preset do you recommend? (i.e. Presets: scale to fit, Media: scale to fit) I have to admit that this has always confused me as It never seems to work out as expected.

Where can I change the media scaling options?

Don't you just love mondays?
Thanks again, Tone,

Dom

Hi Dom,

I feel for you - I've done the same myself.

Unfortunately, there's no simple fix, but the following information
will help. All your shapes, graphics objects etc are now scaled to
75%.
Restoring their size to 100% will be an important first step, although
you'll still have to manually put them in the right place on screen.
Media
may (but shouldn't) have "Multiple Conversions" set as its scaling -
if it does, change that back.

Fwiw, this bug is known, and documented. The way to avoid it is to
always do a "Save As" prior to putting a sequence into the source
viewer of a sequence of different aspect ratio. Or, drag the sequence
straight to the timeline of the destination sequence, avoiding the
source viewer scenario completely.

Regards,
Tone :)

Major Disaster......

I edited / composited an advert, using loads of effects / captions etc.
in pal 16/9. I then left this project for a couple of weeks until I
re-entered it to make a 4:3 version of the advert. I created a new Pal
4/3 sequence and edited the 16/9 sequence onto the new 4/3 sequence
from the source monitor. I then messed around, made stuff 4/3 etc on
the new 4/3 sequence.
Now 1 week later I've gone back into the original 16/9 sequence, to
make clean textless versions, and to my horror everything is messed
up, all composites using masks, captions are trash - masks don't fit
objects anymore, captions are almost in the middle of the screen...
this is a major pain as it looks like I've got to redo everything...
Anyone have any ideas what may have happened, did I do something
really stupid? Help!!

Thanks,

Dom
