(FYI for Newbies and Lurkers I recently upgraded my
vintage DS Ver 3.01 to a brand-new Nitris. I was an early adopter of DS but did not follow the normal 2 to 3 year upgrade path) Just paid cash for a new box. I finally got to sit down to my new Nitris today. In a
sentence,
the same, but different. I felt quite comfy like slipping into an old pair of loafers. ( But without that old loafers smell.) As I poked around without RTFM, my fear diminished into a âHey havenât we met beforeâ mindset. Initial loves:
Blazing speedââ.Zoomâ.Zoomâ.Zoom
Kerning in Type Toolâ.Art Directors will love me. Real time effects without rendering ( DVE / Color Correction ) Render timesââWOWâ.not even enough time to go pee pee or get a cup of java. Lots of buttons on the screen ( Being an old MC cutter ) Sound of RAID. Like a beehive as opposed to the Intergraph / Hoover vacuum tower sound. Was able to import an old 3.01 project with several layers and graphics. It successfully imported all old bins and sequences and with the exception of getting a few type
faces confused, not
bad at all. I was in sheer awe as I have to revise a few old projects and have always been meticulous about archiving. ( Sylvainâyou were right on about this.) Exporting reference movies. USB, XP etc.... Initial dislikes: Less elegant interface. Ugly buttons.
Hate the âMicro-softâ look of bins, icons and file menus. Where the F$%#(at)*&* is a IMPORT GRAPHIC button / icon? (OK, I read the book, now I knowâ..drag and drop) Miss the elegant âgreyâ look of the old interface. (Perhaps I can change this) Still a pain to add comments and other columns with notes. ( Why is this so
difficult?)
Initial observations:
I have been monitoring this board for the last 3 years and I often felt like the kid who NEVER got picked to be on someoneâs team. ( Hey Rick, get upâ.theyâre sending in the bench) Well now, I feel so completely vindicated and re-assured in my decision
to jump back in, no matter what the future of DS holds. This was the box that I staked my reputation on, and there simply would not be a www.nakedye.com without DS. I look forward to WHATEVER the future holds and excited to back in
the fold once again. I have saved and compiled many prior posts with bugs and wackiness issues just in case, but so far, the DS Nitris is the
newest
OOMD. ( Object of My Desire.) I shall learn to know her, love her, fear her and respect herââlike I do Betsy. She needs a name, but I will have to get to know her first.
Thanks for letting me shareââI feel like a new proud papa.
Many stupid questions to follow, so thanks in advance.
Bowing to Majordomoââ.Long Live DS. Regards.....Rick at Naked Eye
