Ok, so I'm exporting 40 seconds of video to Quicktime (Animation
codec) full
resolution and it takes over 5 minutes. WHY?
The animation codec is a "asymmetric" codec. It spends its time
compressing and organizing the data so it can play it back faster. :-)
It has been around since 1990 and will carry an alpha channel along
with the video if you ask it to. While it is "uncompressed" when set
to the highest quality, I can't really recommend it for exporting
video, unless you are not sensitive to the YUV->RGB conversion that
takes place.
I have been having excellent luck with using the uncompressed 10-bit
BlackMagic codec, especially for cross-platform HD xfers from the DS
to the Macintosh. You get all the bits with a minimum of fuss, and
can put off all the media transformations (YUV->RGB, 10-bit->8bit,
etc.) until the final stages of your workflow where they will do less
harm.
