After consulting with development, we wonder what version of DS you are using.  There was indeed a previous issue where linked media from another project would archive all media files but this has been fixed since a few versions now.  With DS v7.6, if you link to a single clip and media, archiving should only send this material to tape and ignore other media files from other projects.

As for an option to un-link media, this is not possible, unless you manually move the media file itself outside of the storage.

Subject: Archive Trim Down and Tape Library

I understand that when I import a clip from another project (copy media) it creates links to the rest of that other project's media in my project, hence making a large archive even larger.  Is there any way to break the link of that other project's media that is not being used in my project to trim the size of the archive down?  What if none of that other project's media gets used in my project?  Is there any way to ditch the links of that media all together without affecting the other project?  I have tapes in my tape library that I'm not utilizing at all, but I'm afraid to delete them from my project's tape library, because I don't want them deleted from their original projects.  Is that fear founded?

Thanks!
