Hello all,
Concerning the memory problem, there are multiple causes that can lead to that problem. Some of which are currently being addressed for the next release. But there are few things that are in your control too. Here are a few tips to help you reduce your memory usage in your sequences:

- Paint: "Cutout" strokes use lots of memory. In many instances you can use a "Clone" effect instead which don't use much.
- Paint: Real-Time paint filters use much more memory than non-real-time filters. If you have memory troubles, it may be worth turning them to non-real-time (there is a switch in the property page for that).
- Titling: Rolls and crawls are big memory consumers. The only tip I have is to make those in separate sequences and use reference clips. Of course, that means you need to render them.
- Sub-Title tool: This creates lots of real-time paint filters, and therefore has the same problem. However, in the text file where you write the sub-titles, there is a setting to tell if the sub-titles are RT or not. Set accordingly.
- 3D Warp ( NOT Marquee, the old one ) is taking lots of space. If you use it, you are better off making a timeline to clip of the result than keeping the effect on the timeline.

These tips are especially usefull if you work in HD or bigger. But some effect-intensive SD sequences might suffer of the same problems. We will be looking at these problems (and some other less obvious) for V8. Disclaimer: it might be possible that none of this is fixable (yes, that happens) in a reasonable amount of time. But it *might* be, we don't know yet :)

Happy editing!

Sylvain,

Is there any plan to implement a play length toggle like the old
Composer systems had. When I was working on large sequences I would set
the play length to 2 min and the Composer would only look down the
timeline 2 min and it would minimize the strain on the resources.
