/rant - apologies in advance!

So,

If I shoot DV, edit DV, and deliver to DV / DVDs I can use:
Avid Xpress DV + Avid DVD OR Avid Liquid OR Final Cut Pro.
If I shoot Digibeta / SP, edit 601, and deliver to Digibeta / SP I can use:
Avid Xpress Pro OR Avid Liquid Pro OR Avid MCA Adrenaline OR Avid DS OR Final Cut Pro.
If I shoot HDV, edit HDV, and deliver on HDV I can use:
Avid Xpress Pro HD (only on PC) OR Avid Liquid Pro OR Final Cut Pro.
If I shoot HDCam, edit HD, and deliver on HDCam/D5:
I can use Avid MCA Adrenaline (compressed) OR Avid Symphony Nitris OR Avid DS OR Avid Liquid Chrome OR Final Cut Pro
If I shoot HDCam SR, edit 4:4:4, and deliver on HDCam SR I can use:
Discreet smoke OR Final Cut Pro.

Hrm.

So, really, all they're doing is adding another product which online editors are going to have to accept stuff from, and something that directly competes with the Xpress line?

Brillant.  It seems as if they're trying to position it against FCP, but why?  Can I total conform from it?  Can I put it on a Unity?  If not (and I'm pretty sure both answers are no), then it loses the two biggest things it gets from being called an 'Avid'.  It's not really an Avid box, it's a Pinnacle box.  And sure, position it against FCP and Vegas and Edius and the Axio stuff, but all Avid is going to wind up doing is confusing what remaining loyal customers they have and pissing off resellers and post houses that now have to deal with one more 'Avid.'  People are confused enough with HDV vs. HD, now all of a sudden there are FIVE (5) completely seperate lines of products in the post world for Avid?  Liquid, Xpress, MC, Symphony, DS.  5 lines of products, 3 interfaces, a handful of media formats, and oh, only a few of them actually play nice together.

Avid: Just admit that you bought Pinnacle so you could steal their HDV code and drop it in, line for line, into the MC / Symphony so that your codemonkeys at Tewks could focus on cobbling Uncompressed HD into an Adrenaline.  It's cool, just admit it.

/end rant

what an ugly app.  What is it for that's not possible with every other
system they make?  DVD authoring?  I don't understand the target
audience for this.
