Title: 2K / 4K workflow

Yes, it handles 4K, only way to play is with a HD Proxy, you can work all with a HD Proxy and then render it a full res when you finished. In my experience, render time and response of the DS when you work the 4K full res. It is painfully slow. All depend what you are doing in 4K. If you are just conforming, or if you are compositing with several layers.  I found some stuff that do not work OK at 4K and some times just render garbage because a memory limitation of the current OS. If your compositing is a bit complex, probably you are going to experiment some problems because of the memory limitation, Hope Ver 8 will handle it better.

Subject: 2K / 4K workflow

Hi all,
Most of our work has been on SD, and for the first time, we might be getting a project that would require editing in 2K or 4K.

Yesterday, a client called in asking about the workflow, which file format the images should be in etc.
I didn't know the answers, but I did tell him that DS does handle 2K and 4K. I told him I'll get back to him once I find out.

Does DS handle 4K ?

Which file format should I have the client bring the images in.

What are the project settings?

Are there any other things that I need to be aware of?

Are there any sample 2K or 4K images on the web, that I can download and try out the workflow ?

I was told at NAB that the next DS (v8.0) would be 64bit and would handle 2K / 4K a lot better than the way it is now.

Thanks
Tomio
