the mac OS has XP beat hands-down in the 'I'm trying to help you' category.

I'll site my favorite example:

I had a .wav file on a mac.

I wanted to burn it to a data CD for transport to another system [yes, I realize there are other ways to do this but bear with me].

I put a blank CD in the drive and drag the file to it.

helpful mac offers [correctly] to burn a CD

I hit 'record' and the CD is burned.

but, it's an audio CD, not a data CD.

put in another fresh CD and repeat.

now search for 20 minutes to find a way to tell this helpful mac that I want a data CD and not an audio CD.

but, helpful mac insists that it knows what I want better than me and continues to switch back to burning audio CDs whenever the .wav file is dragged over.

now, I'm sure there's a way to get it to burn a data CD of a .wav file.

it's not that the mac doesn't have the capability it's just that the OS works so hard to protect you from yourself that as soon as you try to do something that the ordinary joe-blow wouldn't want to do you seem to hit all kinds of barriers.

this is why I am perfectly happy with DS on windows.

it ain't perfect but it beats the heck out of trying to fight with an OS all day long.

other folks use macs and love them. that's great for them but I just don't think the same way a mac thinks and so I fight with it.

:::braces for incoming long list of windows shortcomings:::

I like XP for the DS, however, since converting over to OS X and usingFCP for fun and profit, I have no problem with Mac or OS X, now beforeOS X FORGET IT.  I wonder how stable anOS X DS would be over my VERYSTABLE XP DS . . . .   hmmmm, I think I will stick with XP, at leastfor the first version - and the bugs are worked out . . . .
