I agree with Tone. I'm one of those who have been watching the discussion here repeating itself time after time. As Tone and others on this list I have signed a NDA, not beeing able to tell what I know, but there will be a future presented to us sooner or later. Like many users today I'm pretty sure we will disagree if the developments will be to our satisfaction, but I can assure you that Avid has concidered us in their future.

Hi Todd,

Personally, our DS does (most of) what we need in our particular market even
if some of the workflows feel like pulling teeth. I would expect that to
remain the case for the next year or two.

We're lucky, we're the top facility in a very small marketplace. If HD
Heaven was in London then we'd have serious problems and would need to
completely re-think our strategy. I know of at least one London based DS
outfit who went over to FCP, and I'm not aware of any which rely solely on
their DS in the way that we do - they all have some Autodesk or Quantel
products to back it up and to pull in the big-paying clients.

So... we're hanging onto our DS and will probably upgrade to v8 on the 64bit
platform next year. We're basically gambling on the fact that whatever Avid
comes up with as a DS replacement in due course will have an advantageous
upgrade path for those users who've stayed 'faithful to the brand'. We
might be wrong. Heck, Avid could go bust. However we all have to take
calculated gambles in this game and the above is ours.

Regards,
Tone :)

So let's say that it's true, there are less than 5 devs working on the DS
team. We all feel pretty confident about what is NOT going to be in DS 8.
Nobody feels any confidence about there even being a DS 9.

So what's a used Nitris worth on the open market? Anyone know what they've
been going for? I don't need another box to keep the Illusion company in the
storage unit.

With Avid offering 'upgrades' to Symphony Nitris and all I'm trying to
figure the best way to maximize my investment. Although the Nitris might be
able to be in service at the facility for another year in it's current
state, if Avid kills the product the resale price will drop dramatically.

I know it's all speculation, but as I don't have a crystal ball I'm trying
to get some options together. BTW, I'm not trying to be incendiary or
sarcastic here, so no need for flaming. I am seriously looking at options
and this seems it would be the most knowledgeable group as far as used
pricing is concerned.

Thanks!
