We've just bought our first DS - an equinox HD I might add as a cheaper way
into high-end finishing/FX etc... And we have a cheaper path up to a Nitris
for next year. This was after looking at a Discreet Smoke. I must admit that
listening to all you veterans with concerns for the DS's future, it has,
very briefly, crossed my mind whether we made the right choice not going
with the Smoke! - But to be honest, I just love the DS and what it can do
and what the clients think of what it can deliver for them. So for the time
being I'm not going to complain.
Just my 2p worth.

EBay has one with an ask for 85k and another asking 115k.
One thing to keep in mind is that there is absolutely no liquidity in the
market for used DS systems (or Quantel or Discreet/Autodesk), so
unfortunately the price is whatever you wind up negotiating.
And while I said I wouldn't pay more than 70k, the fact is I have no need
for a second DS. This one is in use a good percentage of the time and is
earning its keep, but I don't feel that I'm losing any business by not
having a 2nd one available for booking.
