One great thing about DS from a hardware and platform viewpoint is
that it is a "Swiss Army Knife" that you can sharpen and refine. You can grow
with the platform while others systems were constantly having to buy new
hardware, did not come with sufficient tools, etc. [Hey I did not mention
3D]. I know of quite a few systems still on version 3, 5 or 6 that are still
making money.
I hope there are solid answers to the long list of those who want
to know the future of DS! If Avid waits until NAB 2006 it may be too late as
folks will already have plans to look elsewhere for
solutions.
