I'm a DS newb so maybe I'm out of line. But I don't see the sky falling. There is no tangible proof that the DS has any bad future. Yeah, so they've been quiet except for Symphony. To each system it's turn. I feel in 6 months we'll be using DS 8 griping about what they forgot to add but carrying on happily with the DS.

What is Avid's motivation to nix DS? They sell tons of them. From a biz POV I think Avid wants to keep Symp and DS rolling simultaneously. I think if they canned DS there would be a mutiny FAR greater than this list can show.

Other than a worrisome hunch, what substantial proof do we have that anything is wrong long term?

Let the flamage commence.

Hey folks,
Its been a while for me, but thought I'd take a second add to all the nonsense.

I agree with Todd's post a few days ago about not wanting the marketing spiel. I've been
waiting for someone to make the "stunning" announcement that DS is being ported to 64 bit
and has a bright future as Avid's flagship DI product. This does not mean much to me or the
majority DS sites that I know. Without addressing the core compositing and gfx issues that
have been mentioned on the list thousands of times, DS has a bleak future. What I don't
understand is how Tewks thinks they can "spin" DS as a DI system while they have not really
allowed Montreal to work on necessary compositing features and improvements. Maybe
they'd rather go after the future 'Lustre" market because its too late to crack high end
finishing that involves in depth compositing.

I've said this before but there was a time when I believed that DS had a future as a
competitive high end finishing system and it seemed like the product to allign myself with.
Now, to stay competitive I am forced to exit and open other applications. Isn't that what
Symphony is all about?

I'd really love to see Avid wake up but it seems like it is too late. The developers have been
held back from being innovative and the "porting old sfw to new hardware" game has been
played for far too long across all of their products. Ok - thats my $ .02. Would love to be
convinced otherwise. For now back to my After Effects session...... ;)
