Hi Bob,

Speak to some companies who specialise in office carpeting. They will sell
you an anti-static spray (it's very cheap) that really works well. Just
spray it around the floor (even works on wooden floors) once a week to keep
the dratted static down.

Also, consider some humidifiers in or near your air-con units.
Air-conditioned air is very dry and static likes nothing more than dry
'stuff' to build up on. It tracks away when surfaces and air is
(comparatively) damp.

That's why you rarely hear of static problems in Florida - the humidity
keeps it down.

Regards,
Tone :)

This seems to be caused by static shock. We have 2 sets of these in
adjacent rooms and in one room the console is made out of metal; When the
operator comes in and sits down (or bangs the chair into the side of the
table), it zaps something which gets back into the Gefens and *somehow*
causes the screens in MY room to freak out. (CRTs will show a tiny little
flicker but the NEC flat panels sort of 'reset', going black for a couple of
seconds and then coming back). I also hear a pop in my RTS intercom box.

We've tried at length to isolate this, double checking that EVERYTHING is
grounded, and have never been able to get rid of this problem. I have no
idea why it's getting into the Gefens or how it's even travelling into my
room! It drives me crazy when I'm trying work and my screens go black 10
times a day.
