No need for the hostilities, I was just comparing Apples to Apples in the spirit of the Original question which was âwhat would be a good alternative to DSâ, not âwhat is a low end, price reduced, knock off NLEâ.

No disrespect, towards you personally, was ever intended.

Dear drowe(at)ctv.ca

May I clarify.  The original poster asked, if not DS then what.  I NEVER compared FCP with all 3rd party stuff to DS as being in the same ballpark....not even same league.  I simply replied with my response to a simple question of what "I" repeat "I" would do.  I am not a heavy effects guy, just a heavy guy.

Luckily, I have a brand new Nitris and a relatively new FCP HD suite, so doesn't really F*)&^%$#(at)ing apply to me.  Just a hypothetical response.  I love my DS which is why I just upgraded, so no need to defend it with me.

Well go ahead and try to outfit a suite, that is as versatile as a DS suite, with the console, VTRâs, DAâs, monitors, scopes, mixer, chair, phone etc. and has a workflow that allows you to output the same quality, in the same time for - as you put it âA FIFTH THE COST OF DSâ, no sir, it wonât happen. Been there, ran the numbers and honestly, there is only about a 20-25% difference in price between other âPro-sumerâ systems and DS if you are fitting from the ground up.

Now if you have an existing facility with all the needed peripherals already paid for and are only looking at the interface purchase please go buy your:

Final Cut Pro

Apple Raid

Shake

Combustion

Every possible 3rd party plug in package

Dual 30" Cinema Displays

Install it, learn it, curse it for being clumsy and hard to master 3 different programs and a myriad of plugins, all the while, your current client base has upâd and walked out the door for a more established post facility. But it still sounds like youâre saving money doesnât it.

For me, DS is still the best solution, however if not DS, then whatâIâm sticking with Avid and going Symphony and a strong AE package.

For me a no brainer.

Final Cut Pro

Apple Raid

Shake

Combustion

Every possible 3rd party plug in package

Dual 30" Cinema Displays

Still about a fifth the cost of DS.
