one of the things that seems to have been lost in the assorted threads lately is exactly what rick is saying.
if avid/softimage/ds disappeared tomorrow the systems we all work on today would still be viable for quite some time to come.
granted, they would slip further and further behind the leading edge of technology, but would still be fully capable of producing content and generating income for the owner/editor.
by the time the ds is ready for final retirement someone somewhere will have released the new 'super guano caliente 10000' edit/composite/real 3d system (with built-in coffee maker) that we can drool over.
so... let's all switch to decaf and still remain hopeful that avid will not force us to even make these considerations.
