Where I worked in the 70’s , it was all Ampex. 4 avr1’s RA 4000 (2 inch editor) Acr (Cart machine for commercials). If the ACR went down, you would see who was the fastest threading the 2 inch machines. Moved onto Ace Editor for years and went through various switchers ending with Century 3000. I won the cube contest in the ado (only one channel) Actually went to Redwood in81? For the ADO course. There….that should date me enough…

I actually edited on Quad in the late 70's and early 80's. I did a lot of machine to machine editing on the brand new 3/4 tape and on 1 inch when it came out. My main claim to fame was the AMPEX product line. I ran several ACE editors to the ground and I would love to know if there are any still in operation today. I was on that editor from the late 80's until 2001. I complemented that with an AMPEX Century 3000 switcher and ADO. Those were the golden days of liner On-Line. Took a real man (or woman) to run those beasts :)

Hi Bill,

In reality, we should save all this for Yolie's.

I've seen but never actually threaded Quad.  My most archaic formats would be Betamax, 1"C, Betacam, and 3/4".  That makes me relatively young.

Edited on Sony RM440, Calaway, CMX3400, CMX3600, and OMNI - MC - Film Composer, and MC1000.  Finally SoftimageDS/AvidDS 2.1 to 7.6 Equinox QFE3(freelanced some Nitris).  Still relatively young.  No ADO - Only Abekas A53.  Grass Valley 100 and 200.  I guess it's a pretty short career after all.

Perhaps we should change the name of this topic to "Very Old Farts Still Editing" and see how may of us actually used all these formats.

Cheers,
