Subject: My TOP TEN List of Today's Stoopid Questions
Sorry, I save them up rather than ask one at a time....still getting my chops on my new Nitris
but here are some things than seem to function differently from ole Betsy.
1. Once again, what are the pitfalls of leaving the Monitor Icon turned on to see playback
in DS monitors. When I run with Monitor Icon OFF, if I am fast scanning a clip in source viewer using J-K-L or Up / Down arrows, and I want to instantly STOP at a location, the blue
cursor jumps forward or back, NOT where I wanted it to stop. This oddly seems to function
correctly when Monitor Icon is ON,
>>Pitfalls have mostly to do with dropping frames because the computer is trying to render the video to both the desktop and the monitor. This is probably more of an issue with Equinox than Nitris hardware, YMMV. As for the stopping bug, I've always had that issue. I've gotten in the habit of using locators or in/out marks as "instant" reference points.
2. When in Trim mode, and I want to preview an edit point, the preview starts AT edit point RATHER than where I have my Pre Roll and Post Roll set. That means the first Preview is always wasted since it starts at Edit point. Drives me nuts.
>>Me too, and not just in Trim mode (which I rarely use). Looping markers are always a bit off the first time. I hope somebody has a workaround for that.
3. Also, sometimes in Trim mode, I have to toggle Ripple Off and On for correct Trim to
take place. i.e. If Ripple is Turned ON, and I Trim an Edit In, it does nothing until I turn Ripple OFF and ON, then trims correctly.
>>Again, I don't use Trim mode much. I trim on the timeline.
4. Is there a way to add "Next Edit" to a button rather than > button.
>>You probably need to remove it from the > button (or the <period>, depending on how you look at it) before remapping it.
5. Can I add comments to Markers? Can't find this anywhere.
>>Yes. Remember, they're called Locators. Expand the Views folder and click Locators, then open 'em up and comment to your heart's content.
6. How in the heck do I see waveforms on audio tracks. Used to simply expand track
to see them. Where did this go?
>>Hover your cursor over the divider between the track labels (the "damned MEDIA COMPOSER buttons," as stated below) on the far left of the timeline, and press <Ctrl.> Now drag the divider up or down as desired; when open far enough, the waveforms will draw. You also can Ctrl-K and Ctrl-L (I think - I'm at home right now) and all active tracks will eKspand or coLlapse. This is also how to get an audio clip to reappear after recapturing the timeline and HEY WHERE'S MY AUDIO I JUST RECAPTURED???!!! Just tell the system to redraw the waveforms and you're home free.
7. Can I size the Timeline vertical size. Now that there are all those damned MEDIA COMPOSER buttons under the viewers, I find that having multiple audio and video tracks requires alot of scrolling with the hand tooly. Can I size tracks ???
>>Use the above mentioned techniques to collapse tracks smaller than their default size as well.
8. Can't re-name user effects on User toolbar. Used to ask you a new name before you
drag them over?
>>SHIFT while you drag 'em and it will ask for a name.
9. AND PERHAPS MY BIGGEST GRIPE SO FAR.....after I make an Edit using B key or Overwrite button, the Timeline shifts drastically and I have to re-size my timeline after each edit. I realize that if you INSERT or OVERWRITE a clip with a much longer duration than prior one, this could occur, but it seems DRASTIC now.
>>Yep. I hate that. It nearly killed me today as I pasted about fifteen sound effects over some transitions.
10. It seems that when I have browser set to view clip images and I drag one into Viewer,
the browser refreshes all clips.
>>Can't help you there. I'll try it tomorrow.
I will be the first to admit that I have gotten thrown to the wolves this month and working like a fool, so some of these can be found by RTFM. But I am too tired when I get home.
>>We're here to serve. Relax. Pop a top.
Thanks for any/all input and sarcasm is always appreciated. I feel like I'm living in a dog-eat-dog world wearing Milk Bone underwear.
>>Well thanks for that mental image. I'll go to bed now and dream about...oh, never mind.
THANKS........Rick at nakedeye
