Title: hmmmm.

I agree with you Igor,

I have a client who is thinking about buying its own systems… and guess what?  He’s looking at FCP HD, and maybe he will look at Symphony Nitris… but surely, he won’t even think about DS, because he don’t need such a great product and besides that, he knows where to find me and my DS.

IMHO, it looks like Symphony Nitris is there only to compete with the growing of FCP (in what MC Adrenaline failed).

If AVID don’t talk about DS, it’s because they don’t want to associate it with that part of the market, but keep it with the more high-end products (like discreet).

If you look at this:  http://www.avid.com/products/hd/  , you will see that Symphony is that the bottom…

My first two cents

Julie M.

Having worked staff positions for both very large and very small companies I think that larger companies may have the money to purchase competing boxes so they are better prepared for client requests. When a client comes in asking for a specific box they can say "sure" and sit them in that bay even if the box may not be the most appropriate for the job. So if the Avid's marketing campaign compels clients to ask for Symphony, Symphony shall be. But larger facilities that have competing products can internally select the best tool when client is not specifying it or when the client is not supervising.  Smaller places are typically very cautious about purchases and will not rush with buying decisions.

i'd agree. a co. can't have 2 competing products going after the same market. just is bad biz. who'd get more of the companies resources?

As long there is people with the need of editing + compositing Symphony is not a rival for DS... so I don't think Symphony is going to kill DS... is AVID who is going to KILL DS....
