Hi Kevin,
To answer the first part of your question, here's my
workflow:
1. Conform AFE to timeline with "Create Linked"
selected and "Make Clips in Bin" (or whatever it's called )
deselected
2. View the Error report and note the locations
of the missing file sources
2b discard the timeline
3. Put the files where DS was looking for them -
just make identical paths.
4. Conform the AFE to timeline with "Create
Linked" and "Create Clips" both selected
5. Capture from timeline with
handles.
There is (currently) no nice and simple way of globally
"fixing" file locations. DS's file handling is pretty poor in that
respect.
As for the second part of your question I think it's to do
with forcing DS to tidy up UNC paths, but our DS is currently packed into
containers awaiting our move to larger and prettier premises over the Christmas
break, so I can't check.
Regards,
Tone :)

"Optimize File Sources" under "Data Management"
Hi DS'ers...
I just got a question from our head DS Artist - and wasn't quite sure of
the answer. He's still trying to find an optimal workflow for AFE's or Avid Bins
that come over to the DS with lots of linked quicktimes or stills - The
interminable wait while Windows or DS looks for the path where the original
files existed. (Note- is there a way to remove this path? Or at least tell the
DS to ignore it, and just ask where the files are immediately?)
Anyhow, while mucking about, he found "Optimize File Sources" under "Data
Management", and asked me what it does, which I had no idea of. I searched the
.PDF manual online, but couldn't find it. We're on DS 7.6, QFE3, Nitris
HW.
