So If I move my linked files into the project folder now (before archiving) can I relink to them? Also what about my QT's that I captured with alpha channel? Is there no way to save it on disk with the archive? If I move the actaul QTs (not the Avid captured version) will it save that with the archive, ignore it, or want to commit it to tape?
I guess DS sees whatever is video files and forces you to save it to tape?
Since I do 30 second spots and would only want to archive a small bit of footage it would be nice to just save this on disc with everything else without going out to tape. It seems like it would be simpler anyways just to recapture from the original tapes rather than archive from another tape.

Hi Chris,With thinking ahead:this is exactly what you can do -BUT to do this you have to place the files inside your project folder (usually under f: DSProjects) and this should be done before you link them into the project. This way they will be archived together with the project and DS will automatically know where they are when you decide to bring the archive back in again.Without thinking ahead:There is a log file inside the archive that will tell you where the files are linked from. This will allow you to place copys of the files inside of the archive and during restore you can see in the log file where you should put the files back. The captured video media can only be archived to tape, if you choose to.Good luckAndiChris Smith wrote:I tried looking through the web archives but didn't see my question. The manual isn't very clear for me on this:I'm archiving our first project. I have elements from DigiBeta, Quicktimes w/ alphas generated from AE, Linked high res photos of skies used for sky replacement. What I would prefer is to have one archive that didn't copy the digi media because I just assume recapture the few clips from the actual edit. But I would want the QT's and linked photos copied into the archives and relinked. Is this possible? The manual isn't clear about the details of non video/cache/audio files. If it's not possible to do automatically do I have to manually copy the QT's and linked photos into the archive and manually link them after restoring the project?*Chris Smith**Partner/Film Director**Sugar Film Production**3699 McKinney #222**Dallas 75204**214.655.2662*--Andi Loorwww.andiloor.se---Subscribe?
