Ed,
Yes, it is strange. They may be referring to the fact that it uses the "Auto Edit" function of the VTR - as compared to actually performing the edit-in edit-out on the fly - which would be harder than just setting an in/out and letting the VTR do the "Auto-Edit"? Just a theory, of course...

Hey, while we’re on this subject:  Why are the selections either “Auto” or “Assemble” on the I/O configuration tab?  Why not just “Insert” and “Assemble”?  Is there a mode where the assemble edit mode will “automatically” be selected when in the “Auto” mode?  That could be a bad thing!

Just something I have always wondered about since way back when in DS Version 2.

Thanks!

Okay, I know I'm noobin' out bad but I have a last question.  After all being an editor/compositor isn't my actual job, just my passion :)

I have just laid my timeline to tape on a pre-blacked tape in insert(auto) mode.  Works beautifully (may add that when I did this on FCP it gave me persistent errors till I laid it out with bad timecode in frustration).

Question:

I saw on a spec sheet somewhere that the VITC and LTC have to exactly match.  I laid down to a SONY A500 deck.  The LTC is perfect, but when I use the jog wheel to check the tape, it temporarily shows VITC and the time is offset by 5 minutes or so.

How can I ensure the LTC and VITC are identical? Is this a Deck side change or on DS?

Thanks again all.
