Cool! Thanks Bogdan! I had been told by a Sony rep
that it couldn't do that.

Hi Scott, To find out what framerate the tape was
recorded at, you need to: -set the SYSTEM FREQUENCY to 59.94i -change
menu item 121=INFORMATION DISPLAY/submenu item SYSTEM FREQUENCY to
EVER Tape will playback at 59.94i and original tape framerate will be
dislayed on the deck control panel like: 25psF >> 59.94i . No
more guesswork... Bogdan Scott Roy

We've
finally got the deck in......Here's were my inexperience with the 500 come
into play....The tape was NOT labeled correctly (or at all) and does not
clearly state the frame rate?? How do I tell?? Does/will the deck tell me??
Right now I'm shooting in the dark!! and checking all the frame
rates...would be nice to know for sure!!

Isn't all this the same as what I had written in the first
place? If you have a 30 sec spot, I needs to remain a 30 second spot, not
31,32,33, or 34. The 4% increase does no good. He's using master tapes,
and needs to re-purp them for the US market (NTSC). They still need to be
30. So either way, he's going to need to do a time warp which equals
render time. Or go get a UFC and do it that
way.
