I've used Memtest86+ (available at http://www.memtest.org/) before and it seems to work well.  I haven't used it on the DS (thankfully haven't had to!) but it should work just fine there.

Good luck troubleshooting the lag;  let us know how it goes.

Different sequences and different clips.  Will do about memory tests.  Can you point me to the right software?

Simple questions, but:

Is it the same sequence every time?  If not, does the sequence(s) that cause the lag have any common clips?

It could be a corrupt cache or corrupt media file that's causing the box to slow down.   Otherwise, do what others have suggested and run Memtests to make sure your RAM isn't going sideways.

It seems the lag happens after I double click on a few sequences.  Eventually one of the sequences will take a long time to load (like 20 seconds or so) then from then on when I double click clips to see them in the viewer they are taking a looong time to load.

However the sequences are all very simple.  Just 30 cuts of 10:1 compressed clips with almost no effects on them yet.
