hey george,
i probably made 80 qt ref movies today while versioning an ad campaign.  all worked brilliantly.  i love cleaner's watch folders.
end of day i made an 8 minute qt ref as a test for you....
no audio on that quicktime.  the movie properties showed a 48k 16bit soundtrack, but it was silent.  strange thing is i know i've used qt refs and cleaner to make mpegs of long form before, but it didn't work today.
if i have time i'll try a 4 minute tomorrow.

btw still running QT 6.5.2 on my updated Equinox

Hi George,

Sorry to take so long to reply.  Just did some tests.  Both 16 and 24 bit came across (WM10 and QTPro6.5.2).  Ran it through cleaner and they worked fine.  Did you check your mixer setting for the sequence you're on - is it Mono or Stereo (good) or 8 track (bad)?  7 minutes is nothing really.  I do AVI refs for 30 minutes and more (it's how I encode through CinemacraftSP to MPEG2).  Are you using QT7?  I had problems with QT7 (others say they haven't - I don't trust 7 yet).

Hey, Paul.  No, I do these quicktime reference files all the time with 30 sec spots from 24 bit audio sequences with no problem at all with audio.  And, a couple of weeks ago did a video that was 4:20 in length and had audio with the QT reference.  The other DS editor here said that someone from support told him that there was a length limit for keeping audio with your QT reference.  Don't recall what that length was.  But, I hate to say it, but apparently size does matter.

Cheers!

George,

The old limitation was not QT (afaik) it was AVI which had a 2GB limitation.

Your problem, however, sounds like the old 24bit vs. 16bit problem.  If your sequence is 24bit and you output a file or even a reference file, I believe you won't get any audio because QT and AVI are expecting 16bit audio.  Go into your sequence and change the sequence pref for audio to 16bit - reoutput your ref file and you should be fine.

So, I made a quicktime reference of a 7:16 video to take into Cleaner to make an mpeg for approval.  But, lo and behold, I realized there was no audio.  Now, I'm hearing that this is an old limitation (or bug) of the quicktime reference where you can't go past a certain length (anyone know that length?) that actually got a little worse with the last version.  Is this being worked on or is it not a priority for any upcoming version?

Cheers!
