Yep, I have done Japanese, Chinese, Korean, German, Spanish, and other languages for subtitles.
For Japanese, we used MS Gothic.
Do you know how to use the subtitle function? What frame rate are you working at? Is it HiDef or SD?
I had no problems what so ever.
