Probably not. The unofficial word was that beginning with version 8 new hardware and upgrades were required. If they are looking at recovering R&D costs then it becomes obvious why they ported NITRIS over to Symphony. They can stretch their investment in NITRIS further.

Who knows what Avid will do. We are supposed to be very excited about Version 8 as the "Future of DS". Well v8  will be different, run on 64 bit, and obviously they will have to have a few "QFEs" for version 8. Then what.

It's not mandatory (although most optimal)... Actually, I was bummed to see, upon reception, that XP home edition
was installed on my new Athlon based computer...

If you do run XP x64, you can still install 32bits apps (they have their own program files directory and registry)

The test setup for the DS on 64 bit procs has been ran for nearly two years!  The AMD chips are not a problem for the new software. You should not try move old software forward to 64 bit. For one thing you run a special 64 bit version of XP on 64 bit machines!

As for AMD processors, historically DS has been deeply dependent upon code in the Intel chips. I doubt you could get it to run dependably if at all.

I was curious about this as well, but in terms of v.8. We are looking at buying another workstation for an Adrenaline System and I was going to by the xw8200 for the DS and use the xw8000 that we?re pulling out for the Adrenaline. However, certain DI workflows in 7.6 are only qualified with the xw8200 and I didn?t want to purchase a computer that ultimately wouldn?t be qualified for all of v.8?s functionality.

Has anyone heard anything? I thought I did hear someone say that the xw9300 would never be qualified for the DS because of the AMD processors. Just curious.

Thanks,

Troy

Hi list. Needing more processing speed on the Nitris, currently on the
XW8000, want to go to the XW8200 with dual 3.6 procs. Anything I need to be
aware of or can I buy the workstation and migrate the cards/recovery CD?

Thanks all,

-Todd
