Yeah,  I should know.  I was an audio engineer in another life :)  I forget about AES/EBU in video applications.  We used to use it to patch Lexicon 300/480, Emulator III, and Pro Tools together(via Apogee converters)

Embedded SDI to me is so prime because it's one cable.

XLR is really a connector that is used on Balanced analog signals.  This means your audio is coming from a +4 Balanced analog source.

Embedded means the audio is embedded in the serial digital signal of the SDI inputs.
