I would recommend posting in whichever HD format you have the most original footage of, converting all your SD sources to that format.  If you're going to shoot 720p/59.94, then post at that format as well.

As for converters, I would very much recommend either a Snell & Wilcox Ukon ( http://www.snellwilcox.com/products/data/conversion_restoration/ukondata.pdf) or the Teranex Video Computer ( http://teranexlive.dimentians.com/home/platforms/videoComputer.cfm) to do your up/down/cross-conversions.

Hello everyone,

We're talking to clients that have to deliver a 720p 59.94 history show.  They have masses of archive, both PAL and some NTSC on beta SP.  They are also planning to shoot interviews and reconstructions at HD.  They haven't yet decided whether to shoot at an NTSC rate or a PAL one.  If PAL they will have to do a standards conversion later on.

There are various issues and choices around this.  It would be nice for them to shoot 720 59.94 as per delivery. Obviously the PAL archive would have to be standards converted.   It also appears to be impossible to conform any 1080i material into a 720p sequence.  Our HDCam deck will only give out a 1080 signal when upconverting the Beta SP material.

Anyone else had any experience of this?  Is there a decent cross converter/standards converter that we can hire to take care of these problems?

Thanks for any wisdom,

John
