QuickTime can always play back QuickTime files. I think the issue here was to be able to be portable without a laptop.
 
I downloaded some of the early Pixar films, Luxor being the first. Not having a video iPod, I play them back on my computer.

You can also wach the videos in the latest version of itunes on your computer (in case you don't want to buy an iPod).
