Not sure 9GB is big enough to accomodate your old install.
I would suggest you to use the recovery CDs and install 7.5 from scratch either on the 9GB or  on a new 80-200GB IDE drive, they're cheap these days.
It will probably take less time than the restore, and you will start fresh.
Don't forget to save your old license file in a safe place, like a floppy or a USB drive.

Hello

We recently updated our DS to 7.6 (from 7.5), but due to a problem with
our license file we are stuck with a non-working DS.

Before doing the 7.6 update procedure, being pessimistic I've done a
backup of the entire C drive using the built-in windows backkup
utility. I've never used this function before, even less on a DS
system.

My question is...
Could I restore the 7.5 installation to another drive (we have a spare
9 GB SCSI drive), boot on that drive and work until all issues with our
7.6 installation are resolved?
Would using the bult-in SCSI controller (compaq w8000) to boot windows
and operate DS create any problem with the system?

I'm going to try it, but if someone tells me positively that it won't
work, i'll just let it go.

thanks!
