Jody,
In the purge media dialogue box you should check maximum storage recovery and select another box to retain 'xx' frames heads and tails. I'm sure this option only becomes un greyed out when you select 'maximum storage recovery'.
However - be prepared for the long wait you described. I would always try to delete unreferenced media before actually playing with the media of the edit itself.
Another thing is that if you know you are going to be short on storage space then conform your job with much smaller handles than you would ideally like to use (ie 5 frames rather than 50). Is it really necessary to conform on an adrenaline? If you do then conform from the decomped sequence but send the un-decomposed sequence to the DS... It give you more options when revealing media that extend beyond the handles you specified in the decomped seq.

Hi Paul
I would like to know the answer to that question but specifically i would like to know how to purge all media except what the sequence references PLUS head and tails... I recently ran out storage on my first HD job... and did a purge media EXCEPT FOR seq... it took 4 hours analyzing and splitting my media files. When it was finally done i checked my sequence and found some HD shots had one frame missing at the end of the shots in my timeline and I discovered that some of my NTSC archive material had a thick bright green line burned into bottom of the first frame of clips on the timeline!!! Not only did I have to hire a deck in again to recapture the missing frames it took several hours to fix... would not recommend this method to anyone Anyone seen this? My workflow is Adrenaline 2.1.6 to DS 7.6 QFE3. Media Captured MXF into adrenaline and copyed onto the DS. Project came over as an AFE
With kind regards, Jody

Under purge, for some reason you can't keep heads & tails with preserved
media without keeping media from other projects.
I don't want to keep the media used in other project, but of course want
to keep heads & tails.
These two options have nothing to do with each other.
