Andi if the project has been offlined in DV quality/size then your files are likely to be off by several frames.

Hi Jef,
Well, it is looong... something like 5 to 1. Last time, it took 105
minutes to translate 18 minutes of video footage plus 15 minutes of
audio.... (38 GB) Don't forget that you also have to transport those MXF files into DS and
it takes time too.
I guess it could depend on which system Xpress ProHD is.

Julie,

I am curious. Do you have any sense of how long the transcode takes? Is it real time? 2 to 1? 3 to 1?

I ask because I am prepping for a project that might want to go that
route.

Thanks,

Jef

Hi Paul and Nacho,

Here is the procedure we use for that.

_In Xpress Pro HD: _

_ _

for NTSC

- Start a project format: 1080i/59.94 HDV

- Capture from HDV camera or deck

- Create a timeline and edit….

When editing is done:

- Change project/format to 1080i/59.94

- Create a new bin, like “Output to DS”

- Copy the sequence in this bin

- Decompose

- In Bin/Consolidate/Translate, choose: Translate to DNxHD 145 or 220.

- Specify: Do audio format conversion to MXF (PCM)

- Output as AFE

_ _

- Move the MXF file to DS configured drives (also see: Configuring Storages for Sharing MXF Files in On-line help of Avid DS)

_ _

_ _

_In Avid DS:_

_ _

- Create a project 16/9, 1080i/59.97, Compressed DNxHD (145 or 220, as

chosen in Xpress Pro)

- Open AFE. two ways: Drag the Bin in the project folder, or open the Bin and drag only the sequence.

You can refer to Conforming an MXF Sequence Created on Another Avid Editing System

And voilà. Files should be relink automaticaly and play in real time.

I hope I didn’t forgot anything.

Regards,

Julie M.

Nacho,

I believe that to be true. It's actually one of the ways that I'm hoping to jump into HD this year. Anyone else with actual experience??? I'd love to know, as well.

BTW is it posible to use MXF media coming from a Avid Xpress Pro HD with HDV material like we do with DV?

What ever happened with HDV that all the other “Avids” utilize?
Any news besides using a Miranda box?

   Just wondering…

Also I do want to thank Marianna for at least a response. It is
never easy to work in a company where “Market Analysts” determine
the focus and future of a company. While we the people who buy and
utilize the gear expect one thing, the shareholders usually expect
something different. It’s all about priorities….

Hi everyone and happy new year! I have just received an update to
the questions some of you have been asking on the DS-List.

First I’d like to thank you for your patience and prodding
(especially Gus :) ) while waiting for me to post. Your questions
   were taken seriously at Avid.

   Onward……….

Your first question surrounds our commitment, development and
plans for upcoming releases for DS.

Rest assured that Avid DS Nitris is being developed actively. The
product continues to focus on the growing trend to high-resolution
RGB workflows (HD-RGB, DI, etc.) and you can continue to use Avid
DS Nitris and its unique features with confidence.

Our development plans include a new dual-link HD-SDI upgrade card
as a purchasable option for Nitris that will provide native
connection and AFE conform of 4:4:4 HD-RGB sources such as HDCAM
SR decks (No pricing information is available at this time). Plans
also include a 64-bit version of DS software that will allow
significantly more memory for handling large, complex sequences.
But maybe the most exciting element is the planned purchasable
option to install both Symphony Nitris and DS Nitris on the same
box. With this option you can, for example, launch Symphony for an
HD conform project or DS for a DI project. The best of both

worlds.

As for the question of Symphony relative to DS; the key points
here are that we’re actively developing both platforms for
different purposes. Symphony Nitris is ideal for HD Total Conform,
Avid user interface and full Avid Unity and workgroups support. DS
is ideal for high-resolution RGB workflows such as HD-RGB and DI,
DS interface and today’s FX and compositing toolset. Remember,
we’re planning an option to switch back and forth between the two
   applications.

I know the information I have shared provides only a glimpse into
the future but this should be enough for you to know that; 1. DS
is actively being developed and 2.it continues on the
previously-announced trajectory focusing on the growing trend to
high-resolution RGB workflows (HD-RGB, DI, etc.), and 3.we have a
major release in the works for you in 2006.

Thanks again for all your patience … see you at NAB and here is to
   a great 2006!

   Marianna
